Representatives of the Kansas City Royals and Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the club's Double-A affiliate in Springdale, Ark., will make a goodwill trip to Joplin, Mo., to visit tornado victims and relief effort volunteers on Monday, June 6.
The Royals contingent is scheduled to include former first baseman Willie Aikens, former outfielder Brian McRae and Royals Director-Broadcast Services & Royals Alumni Fred White. Royals mascot Sluggerrr and members of the K Crew will also make the trip to Joplin.
The group will meet up with members of the Naturals, including pitcher Buddy Baumann, catcher Ryan Eigsti, General Manager Eric Edelstein and Naturals mascot Strike.
Together, the Royals and Naturals will serve lunch to Joplin residents affected by the recent tornado devastation, as well as volunteers currently helping in the relief effort. The event will take place at the Sam's Club in Joplin, located at 3536 Hammons Blvd., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Royals contingent is scheduled to be in attendance from noon to 2 p.m. The lunch is sponsored by Sam's Club, Tyson and Wright Brand Bacon.
In response to the devastating tornado that ripped through Joplin on May 22, Royals Charities made a $25,000 donation to Heart to Heart International for its relief efforts in the city. In addition, Royals fans generously contributed more than $18,000 during an in-stadium collection held earlier this homestand that will benefit the American Red Cross relief efforts.
