The City of Joplin, in collaboration with the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri, will host a Press Conference at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3rd at the Dr. Donald E. Clark Public Safety and Justice Center. The meeting will take place in the Joplin Municipal Courtroom, located in the Justice Center.
City and Community Foundation officials will provide information regarding two different funds established after the disaster on May 22, 2011. The funds are designed to support the short term and long term funding needs of the citizens of Joplin after the devastating EF-5 tornado that affected almost 8,000 structures including businesses, residencies, schools, and city facilities.
Individuals who wish to donate to the rebuilding of Joplin may do so by going on line to www.cfozarks.org/donate and note “Joplin Tornado First Response Fund” in the fund/program box.
These funds, as part of the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri, Inc., will accept contributions to the Joplin Tornado First Response Fund on behalf of CFSWMO. Donations can be made online at: www.cfozarks.org/donate , and please note “Joplin Tornado First Response Fund” in the fund/program box. Or, if citizens would rather donate by check, they can be mailed to: Joplin Tornado First Response Fund c/o Community Foundation of the Ozarks, P.O. Box 8960, Springfield, MO 65801. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the IRS.
A committee comprised of community members and city employees will be formed as part of this effort. Upon request of the committee, the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri shall disburse amounts from the Fund to support the immediate needs of the Joplin area that have been affected by the tornado. Distributions will be made to 501c3 nonprofit organizations, school districts, churches or government entities.
