Black: Vote against HB 631 was a victory for teachers

In her latest report, Rep. Linda Black, D-Desloge, commented on the defeat of HB 631, which would have eliminated teacher tenure and would have required that at least 33 percent of all teacher evaluations be based on students' standardized test scores:

This week yielded a victory for teachers, school administrators and superintendents who opposed HB 631. The bill was supported by special interest groups who seek to dismantle our public school system.

As a former public school teacher, I understand that the dynamics of our changing society, as it relates to education, must be met with changes to our educational system. Establishing heightened parental involvement has the greatest potential to enhance education and give students the best opportunity of achieving academic success. Public education must be a partnership between families, schools and our community.
