Mark Rohr to Houston Chronicle: If you can handle the Joplin Tornado, you can handle anything

In an interview in today's Houston Chronicle, former Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr, who will start as the city manager of League City March 31, said League City will be in a better position because he is there:
Rohr cited his experience in economic development and propelling the rebuilding of Joplin after the E5 tornado swept through the city in May, 2011, destroying a third of the property and killing 161 people.
Rohr said when he left office 92 percent of the homes had been rebuilt or were in the process of being rebuilt, and 90 percent of the businesses were back on track. In addition, he said the city still had $190 million in aid to spend.
"League City may not have a natural disaster - hopefully - but it will be in a better position by having me to manage it," Rohr said. "I can be a manager under difficult circumstances and manage well. You can't imagine the disarray and anxiety in circumstances when a third of your city is destroyed. If you can handle that, you can handle any circumstance that comes your way."

And write a book at the same time- and since league city is only half developed he could bring in a master developer

I hope he took his superman cape with him

As a former Houstonian I am embarrassed they are hiring Rohr and his ego League City will be sorry and I hate that for them. Check the domestic violence records from Ohio and Joplin.

The master developers Wallace-Bajjalli are just a few miles away from League City. Another fleecing job on the way! Why did you people think Rohr went there--mere coincidence? nope. Partners in deed.

8:07 brings up an interesting point. Maybe those records need to be examined.

I have made multiple mentions on these very forums about the domestic violence incidents with Rohr and RT has, professionally, explained why he can't post them. The threat of libel that followed in Piqua. Now, with Sunday's story in the Globe, it finally appears to becoming public knowledge here in Joplin, Rohr beats women. He beat his girlfriend in Ohio, he has repeatedly beat his wife here. While I do not to sound like a supporter of the 5-person bloc here, there is more to this story than we all know. How much of it is hidden in the 10 pages being held, I don't know. But something is wrong from several angles. The timing of the police chief retirement, his refusal to participate, the refusal of the Seneca chief to participate, the refusal of Charlie Kuehn to participate. Kuehn, Woolston, Dr. Joseph and Wallace-Bajjali are all partners on projects in Joplin. They are all watching each other's backs. The report recommended Woolston resign and the city cut ties with Wallace-Bajjali, and neither of those recommendations have been acted on yet, the council approves payment on the report at twice the approved price tag. If someone were to add all of this up, submit it to the attorney general, something some where is wrong. More questions and answers need to be sought.

9:58 PM is correct. Why act only on the recommendation to fire Rohr and not cut Woolston and Wallace Bajjalli? That makes no sense at all, and it should be investigated. I don't object to firing Rohr, I just don't understand why they acted on one part of the recommendation and not all of it--unless they are part of what Woolston and Wallace Bajjalli have done.

Anon @6:46: With elections in very short order, unless the problems with Woolston are really, really bad (like refer to a prosecutor bad), it's not improper to "let the people decide".

As for Wallace Bajjalli, many have noted there are very stiff financial penalties associated with breaking the relationship. Or, I would assume, without sufficient cause, proof of which might be being gathered right now. Or perhaps Wallace Bajjalli was put on notice by the Gang of Five: your protector Rohr is gone, don't do X, Y and Z, and keep your promises, or we will terminate the deal with cause.

Thanks to Randy for finally posting what 9:58 said. Truth is a defense to libel. It is time the city of Joplin knows who Mark Rohr really is and someone needs to give League City a head's up. Also, regarding the article in the Globe Sunday---Missouri law REQUIRES someone to go to jail in response to a domestic violence call regardless of the situation so why didn't Rohr go to jail or his wife in response to the call???? Maybe that is why the Chief of Police is resigning for not following the law?????

Police know better than being put in a position of investigating their supervisor and just call an outside agency to investigate.

It didn't happen that way in Joplin and as a result we have a bitterly divided council and a big bill from an investigator. the bill should be sent to the chief for not following proper procedure.

Whatever else happens the council needs to make sure that the new chief knows procedure and follows it.

I wasn't aware about the law requiring at least one person to go to jail during a domestic violence call. That raises MANY questions about procedure being properly followed. I, for one, would like a few answers.

I have left a voice message for the city council for League City Texas and suggested they review this story on this blog and the comments

Let me make it clear that I am NO fan of Mark Rohr's. Very happy to be rid if him, but let's not do anything g to cause League City to withdraw their job offer to him. Without that job for him to go to we risk having to continue to pay out his severance package.

Unless you are rohr's wife how the hell would you know what goes on inside their house? Anyone claiming to know what goes on behind closed doors is ridiculous.

So if it wasn't for the Marvelous Mark there would be no Joplin. So I guess the thousands of volunteers, state, federal, county and city employees, Joplin would be the second dustbowl.

we wont know what happened behind closed doors because the chief didn't call in an outside agency. Whatever happened was bad enough for a 21 year old daughter to call 911.

Abused women frequently recant abuse charges for various reasons but that doesn't make it not abuse.

Women of Joplin should support the 5 anti abusers

You say only rohrs wife knows what goes on behind closed doors but you forget about the kids. they are victims too. They know what is going on. but you sound abusive yourself with the language and calling people that disagree with you ridiculous.

Most people go thru their whole life without having a domestic violence call from their house and some people have a history of it. Of course you already know this but that wont stop you from lashing out at people that expose the lies.

Rohr should have said -if you can handle my wife you can handle anything

92% of homes and 90% of businesses? Drive down 20th street, main street and through the neighborhoods. I think those numbers may be slightly exaggerated.
