Carthage R-9 Board expected to approve new pay, benefits package for bus drivers

A new pay and benefits package for bus drivers is expected to be approved when the Carthage R-9 Board of Education meets 6 p.m. Monday at Fairview Elementary School.

The R-9 district, like nearly every other district in the state, has had difficulty hiring enough bus drivers to cover its routes.

One part of the package, for full-time drivers, includes health insurance that is 100 percent paid by the district, a retirement plan and a new salary schedule that will offer the option of working 30 hours per week, including 20 hours at regular route pay and the remaining 10 hours on trips for $18.75 per hour.

The second option, for part-time drivers, would have them working 20 hours per week, would not include the health coverage, but would include the retirement plan and would offer $18 per hour for trips.

The pay and benefits package and the new salary schedule are included in the consent portion of the agenda.
