The Barton County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed first degree assault charges today against a Lamar man who allegedly shot at a deputy and rammed his vehicle.
According to the probable cause statement, David Allen Pierson, 76, was ramming vehicles at a home on W 10th Street in Lamar.
After the homeowner fired his weapon at Pierson, Pierson drove into a field followed by a responding Barton County deputy, the statement said. Pierson fired a rifle at the deputy who responded by shooting in Pierson's direction, then "Pierson intentionally collided with the deputy's vehicle."
The vehicle returned to 10th Street where it crashed on the south side of the roadway. Pierson was taken to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, for treatment.
