Joplin R-8 Board to decide on proposed 2024-2025 calendar

 Changes have been implemented for the Joplin R-8 2024-2025 calendar, which will be submitted to Board of Education members when they meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Administration Building.

The changes, which come as a result of input from staff include the following:

-An additional teacher day before the first day with students

-Not starting school on Monday

-More time between the last day of the regular school year and the first day of summer school.

The proposed calendar also includes the following suggestions by staff that have been implemented in recent years:

-Two full weeks for winter break

-Fridays off after parent-teacher conferences

-Balanced semesters as much as possible

-Half days on holiday celebrations and on the last day of each semester for students

-Professional development on the day after Halloween

The proposed calendar has the 2024-2025 school year for students beginning Tuesday, August 20, with the last day scheduled for Thursday, May 22.
