A Carthage convenience store employee faces a felony stealing charge in Jasper County Circuit Court after allegedly helping himself to more than $14,000 worth of lottery tickets.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Sebastian Keene (DOB 2001), Joplin, with bond set at $20,000 cash or $2,500 surety.
From the probable cause statement:
On 4/8/2025 at approximately 1449 hours, I was contacted by a manager identified as Amber Burton who works at Pete's East located at 201 E. Central Avenue to make a report of a theft.
While talking with Amber, I was provided with video footage and a paper showing what lottery tickets she had written down that had been cashed by an employee identified as Sebastian Keene.
On 4/8/2025, Keene had cashed in $3,205.30 worth of tickets. I observed on video two instances on 4/8/2025 of Keene taking lottery tickets out of the display case and cashing them in with the lottery machine.
Keene was not observed paying for any of these tickets.
Amber provided me with an inventory form from the month of April and it listed the name of each ticket, how much it cost and how much it would cost to order a new bundle of the tickets. For the month of April, the inventory log shows $14,098 worth of tickets missing.
Amber stated that she had contacted Sebastian and asked if he was the one who stole all the tickets. Amber stated that Sebastian was very apologetic about the situation, but never admitted guilt to her.
I attempted to make contact with Sebastian via phone and he answered but immediately hung up. I attempted to contact him twice more with no answer.
The case was investigated by the Carthage Police Department.

Stealing $14k worth of lottery tickets to win $3k should tell you all you need to know about the lottery.
Very tempting now he will be marked for awhile
Lol true!
"You can't win if you don't play"
This should be a commercial against gambling.
Some of these Criminals are so Dumb - there are so many cameras in businesses and these people think they are not going to get caught -
Sebastian Keene, just Won - his way to a possible Jail Sentence. We are all sure that your Relatives and Friends are Proud of You!
What logic:
Steals $14K of Lottery Tickets, Wins $3.2K gets arrested his Bail is $20K with $2.5 Cash Requirement - looking at Felony Theft Charges / Jail Sentence / Possibly Legal Fees and Court Costs and Time behind Bars and then coming out of Prison as a Felon and then no one will hire him - Maybe you need to Re-Think your Life Choices. Time to Smarten-UP!
What's crazy is that he will have to repay 14k$....not just the 3k he won.
Lottery: A voluntary tax on people really bad at math.
The lottery is how poor people pay taxes.
