A Joplin man, claiming the resident of an apartment had screwed him over, fired three shots into the apartment Tuesday, according to a probable cause statement filed today in Jasper County Circuit Court.
A warrant was issued today for the arrest of Kurtis Lyle Cooper (DOB 1996) on unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action charges with bond set at $100,000 surety or $15,000 cash.
From the probable cause statement:
On 05/13/2025 a subject fired three rounds through a window at 421 W 3rd Street Apt, Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri.Victim1 and Victim2 were both home when the offense occurred. They heard knocking on their window and shortly after the three shots were fired.
Today, 05/14/2025 Kurtis Cooper called the Police Department to turn himself in. He admitted to patrol officers he was the offender who fired the shots into victim1 and 2's apartment. I interviewed the offender who again admitted Victim1 had "screwed him over" so he went to the residence and fired three rounds through the window using a .380 caliber pistol.

Why wasn't this Idiot, Kurtis Lyle Cooper, charged with attempted Murder and a $500,000 Bond - Stop being Soft on Criminals.
There’s no such thing as attempted murder in Missouri
Probably because he shot through the window with no aim? But this is our new enforcement. Lowest charges. In and out. Slap 🤷🏼♀️
Agree!!! ^^
7:42AM - If this was a Federal Case - Attempted Murder is a Charge.
A federal charge for attempted murder is typically based on 18 U.S.C. § 1113, which addresses attempts to commit murder or manslaughter within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States. For an attempt to commit murder, the penalty is imprisonment for up to 20 years, a fine, or both.
