Joplin receives Creative Community award

On Wednesday, November 9, community leaders, artists and art enthusiasts will join City officials to celebrate a recent announcement by the Missouri Arts Council (MAC). The ‘Press Conference will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 on the second floor of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main. On Friday of last week MAC announced the City of Joplin as the winner of the 2012 Creative Community award.

The Creative Community award recognizes a community that uses the arts to promote economic growth, tourism, business and/or resident attraction or civic growth. Joplin has been selected for its outstanding arts programs, as well as creative thinking during the rebuilding process in light of the May 22 tornado.

Each year, the Missouri Arts Council honors individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state. The awards will officially be presented in a ceremony at 2 p.m. on February 8, 2012 at the Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City. The Missouri Arts Council is a division of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.
