Accused double murderer Micah J. Holman, 32, Carthage, already has had the first move made in his defense.
Holman's attorney, Brett Meeker, asked for a change of judge Wednesday, before the murder, arson, and burglary charges were filed against his client, and Judge Joseph Schoeberl granted it.
Those charges against Holman, as well as the earlier drug charges filed against him, will be heard before Judge Richard Copeland, according to court records.
The Jasper County Circuit Court records online made no mention of a first hearing for Holman, but KODE's website says a video arraignment is scheduled for next Thursday.
Holman is charged with stabbing Marvin and Peggy Steverson of Carthage to death over the weekend, then burning down their house to cover up the crime. Police have speculated that the murders took place after Holman made an attempt to steal the Steversons' coin collection. Holman was reportedly stopped and some of the coins from that collection were found in his possession.
