Less than six months after he was elected to be one of five people in charge of keeping the city of Neosho solvent, Councilman Matt Persinger filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Bankruptcy court documents show that Persinger, who is scheduled to complete his first term in April, failed to pay the U. S. Government $6,330.48 in taxes, owed $41,868.53 in credit card debt and also had multiple bad checks listed among his debts.
The court documents show Persinger and his wife, Jessica, listed $140,730 in assets and $271,146.36 in liabilities.

Persinger was running unopposed for re-election until earlier this week when Heather Bowers filed to run as a write-in candidate.

Unfortunately, with the floundering Bush economy, you will see more of this. Being "overextended" does not just apply to a City Councilman. Small towns and small churches will soon start to belly up. When jobs are lost at the rate they are now, it has a domino effect. So, stand by.
This isn't "overextended"... these are shopping sprees gone wild. Six grand at Zales? And this is a fellow with his hand on the city finances. Lord have mercy.
