Globe quick to jump on story of Epperson's American Idol departure

The Joplin Globe, which has been slow to cover Joplin resident Asia'h Epperson's journey through the seventh American Idol competition, wasted no time posting a story of her departure. Thirty-one minutes after the end of the program and approximately 40 minutes after Miss Epperson was told she was no longer on the show, the hometown paper broke the story.

Let me see if I have the story right. The Globe took favor to cover a Joplin resident who was being watched by 30 million people as she survived all the way to the final 16, but the minute she is eliminated it becomes big news.

It is not hard to understand why the Joplin Globe has such a reputation as a negative newspaper.

If American Idol had been slipping money under the table for positive coverage (like the area casinos have) then I'm sure we would have been reading much more about a local celebrity.

Just how many positive stories has the Globe covered about new casinos? Anyone bet (pun intended) that there will be NO in depth story about the devastating effects of gambling on local residents?

The casinos would like you think that people have been travelling for hundreds, if not thousands of miles around to go to them. I'd bet my paycheck that their bread and butter is people within a hundred miles.

Yeah, and I'll bet most of those folks can't afford bread nor butter because of their gambling addiction.
