Wainwright, Carpenter excel as Cards jump to 8-1 lead at Arizona
Two pitchers whose absence has been deeply felt most of the season have helped the Cardinals limit Arizona to one run tonight. Adam Wainwright is in line for the win, while Chris Carpenter, returning to action tonight, just pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Since the Brewers have already lost, the Cardinals could move to within 5 1/2 games in the wild card race.
