A Carthage man, upset that his girlfriend wouldn't have sex with him, assaulted her, kidnapped her and threatened to kill her if she left, according to a probable cause statement filed Monday in Jasper County Circuit Court.
Ricky Patrico Chavez is being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond, charged with third-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon, both felonies, and misdemeanor kidnapping. His arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
From the probable cause statement:
On 08/31/2026 at approximately 2000hrs, I, Cpl Chris Haddock, was dispatched to a past tense domestic assault.Chavez had got upset with the victim, a person with whom he had been involved in a social relationship of a romantic nature, because she did not want to have sex with him. Chavez then shook the victim violently causing her to hit her forehead on the wall. Chavez then started to punch the victim in the back of the head with a closed fist.
The victim advised that she started crying and screaming. Chavez then took his hands and placed them over her mouth to stop her from screaming. The victim then advised that Chavez slapped the victim's face two times. Chavez then grabbed the victim by the hair on her head pulling her down onto the bed
then pinned her wrists down.
The victim was able to get free and went out to a vehicle to leave. Chavez then followed the victim to the car getting into the car. Chavez then pointed a 9mm Smith and Wesson at the victim's head and said that if she left he would kill her. The victim advised that she was held at the residence from approximately 0430hrs until approximately 0700hrs before she was able to leave the residence and headed home.

Ptl. Musche arrested Chavez on 09/14/2026. During Ptl. Musche's interview with Chavez, under miranda, Chavez advised the victim had come over to his house after drinking together in Joplin. Chavez advised he got into a verbal argument with the victim while they were in his bedroom. Chavez denied any physical assault taking place.
Chavez advised he went out to the car that the victim got into and knocked on the window to try and speak with her. Chavez advised he does not own any firearms or have access to firearms.
The probable cause statement says Chavez has a history of domestic assault and has a protection order against him.
