Diamond man arrested for DWI after fleeing police at 120 mph- it's his 9th DWI

A Diamond man with eight previous arrests for driving while intoxicated, was charged this morning with his ninth DWI.

The Joplin Police Department arrested Michael Eugene Girdner (DOB 1974) Thursday after he allegedly attempted to flee driving at speeds of more than 120 miles per hour.

His bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

From the probable cause statement:

Upon arrival I spoke to {Witness 1} via phone call. W1 advised that Michael Girdner had disclosed to them over the phone that he had been drinking. As W1 and Michael were talking they began to argue with one another. W1 advised Michael then told him he would meet him in Joplin Missouri to fight. W1 advised Michael then told him he was driving and on his way.

I waited in the parking lot of Michael’s destination waiting to see if he truly was driving or if he had just told W1 he was. I observed a vehicle matching the description of the one being driven by Michael, a 2022 red Dodge Ram 1500 enter the parking lot.

When I attempted to make a car stop as I was advised he was under the influence of alcohol. Michael then exited the parking lot evading my traffic stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued with speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

Michael parked the vehicle and fled on foot and was apprehended by officers. I observed strong odor of intoxicants coming from Michael while taking him into custody. After a search of Michael’s vehicle, a firearm was found in the back seat’s floorboard, which he is not allowed to be in possession of as he is a convicted felon.

Michael refused to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests as well as a chemical test of his breath and blood to determine his Blood Alcohol Content while at the Joplin City Jail. While running Michael’s nondriver identification card through Joplin City Dispatch I was notified that Michael has a revoked driving status.

It was also noted in the statement that Girdner had eight previous DWI arrests.

Jasper County Circuit Court records show Girdner is awaiting trial on a felony DWI charge stemming from a February 6, 2021 arrest by the Jasper County Sheriff's Office. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 1;30 p.m. Thursday, June 13.

We need a 3 strikes rule for dwi,s. If you haven't learned your lesson by then you're not going to. Ridiculous of our courts to turn them back out

Soft on crime judges, someone needs to post his past judges and prosecutors so we all know who these idiots are. We need to vote this trash out.

His driving privileges were already revoked. He drove anyway.

Yes, we are too soft on crime. We need to send a message to judges, prosecuting attorneys, and even jurors, that the public is tired of backroom deals, get out of jail free cards, and probation, and send these individuals to prison.

How many times do criminals need to get off scot-free, before everyone wakes up and realizes that next time these individuals could seriously injure or kill innocent people?

Yeah we get that, why wasn’t he locked up so he couldn’t drive.

2:37PM, because the Judges, listens to the recommendations of the Prosecuting Attorneys, who have cut deals with the Defendant's Attorney. These deals include, probation, time served, and/or no jail time.

The Judges need to override the Prosecuting Attorneys whims and the Defendants wants and recommend stronger sentences to provide Society a Safe Place to live.

Judges, Prosecuting Attorneys, and Defense Attorneys are all about - DEALS and FAVORS - it is not what you see on TV, they Make Deals - they all owe one another something.

Who do you think Donates to the Judges Election Committees, it is the Local Attorneys they all do it - Look it Up. The Prosecuting Attorneys, are all hoping to get into a Local Law Firm - Why More Money and Prestage. Thus Deals, Favors, Backroom Courthouse Deals for their Clients.

Most normal intelligent people would see 8+ DUI'S / DWI's and know this is a persistent offender, throw the book at him, lock him up, that is not how our judicial system operates - DEALS! I have and many others have seen the Prosecuting Attorneys go out Drinking with the Plaintiffs' Attorneys after Criminal Cases - All are good Friends - - It is about the DEALS and FAVORS and MONEY... Please don't be Naive, this is how it works.

I personally know this dude and he cares about no one but himself. If JasCo was smart they'd get a search warrant for his house and take ALL his guns! I also wonder if Ashley, his wife, was with him? He's getting her to testify that she was the one who was driving his truck during the February 6, 2021 incident, so I'm curious how Stilley will handle this one for him.
