(From Joplin Schools)Did you know that 7 of Joplin’s oldest elementary schools are in need of important safety and learning space updates to bring them up to modern standards? Regular maintenance and renovations will keep these older buildings safely equipped for generations to come. How old are the buildings?

Alongside this vital work to support our elementary students, our middle and high-school students need indoor space for co-curricular and extracurricular education and activities year-round. A new indoor facility on the JHS campus will alleviate the current overcrowding of spaces dedicated to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at Joplin High School, which have grown exponentially in recent years.
These community-identified improvements would be funded through a responsible plan that uses $10 million in district capital reserves (on top of the $11 million we’ve invested so far this year) and a $40 million debt extension bond, all while maintaining one of the lowest tax rates in the area.

Why do they want to keep going after money? Money will not fix the problems with the academic performance of the district. Buildings don’t teach students, teachers do. And yes, it is a tax increase. They increased it from 16 years to 20 years. It is 4 year increase.
Go sportsball! Lets sink more money in athletics, rather than getting more than 50% of our student proficient in reading and math! Sports rule... and all others drool...
This proposal has something for everyone!
It's not a tax increase according to the fine folks at Joplin R-8.
Is delaying a tax decrease actually a tax increase?
Here's a little thinking exercise.
Suppose THEY pay off THEIR mortgage or car loan. What if that money THEY never see every month still isn't there for the next 48 months? That's no big thing for THEM to wait another 48 months to see the money THEY used to pay on THEIR loan. Right?
Because according to THEIR logic, that's apparently how THEY think this tax increase works. At least for the taxpayers of Joplin R-8.
Here's an idea.
When THEY pay off their next loan, THEY can start sending their payment money to ME!
Unless THEY don't think it really works that way with THEIR money.
Yes, we actually have 2-problems. Our Facilities do need repairs, should we continue to fund astro-turf / sports or repair the buildings?
Second our schools are way behind in educating our children - Missouri Ranks 31st in the United States, and the United States Ranks 8th in the World.
Stop Reading if you are easily offended and Fail to see the Truth and Facts and the Political Irony in our Educational Systems!
The U.S. ranks third in the world for education spending per pupil. So throwing money at our Educational failure of a system has not solved the problems - including: Increasing our Taxes, Allowing Lottery and Sports Betting to become a common theme for Saving the Educational System. What do we know - that we have increased the Number of Administrators in Schools and their multiple Assistants per School District - Additional Layers of Administrators - that are not in the Classroom Teaching to Handle the Political Plight of Schools.
That Schools in Missouri and other States have had to deal with having Girls share Restrooms and Locker Rooms with Boys and then we Force our Daughters to have to Compete against Boys - - - and the Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey directed a letter to Superintendent of Columbia Public Schools, Brian Yearwood, and Mayor of the City of Columbia, Barbara Buffaloe, for deliberately subjecting a group of middle school children to an adult-themed drag show performance. IS THIS WHAT TAXPAYERS ARE PAYING FOR - NO - WE WANT OUR CHILDREN TO BE EDUCATED NOT INDOCTRANATED INTO LIFESTYLES AND MORAL, ETHICAL, ISSUES THAT VIOLATE WHAT THE MAJORITY OF PARENTS BELIEVE - AND SOME POLITICAL PARTIES DO NOT UNDERSTAND - THERE ARE ONLY 2-SEXES!!!!
That the NEA (National Education Association), with over 3-Million Members the Largest Union in the United States - who take Dues from their Members / Teachers and then Donates to Political Parties - EXCEPT THEY DONATE 94% OF ALL DONATIONS TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY - THAT IS 94% OF ALL DONATIONS TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY - THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR DECADES. WHICH SHOULD TELL YOU WHY OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IS FAILING - WHY WE ARE BEHIND AND DICK AND JANE CANNOT READ, WRITE, DO MATH, UNDERSTAND SCIENCE, BIOLOGY, AND HISTORY!!!
I feel that it is important for Dick and Jane to learn to read and write.
I also feel that it is important for a competent high school graduate to be able to write a short essay that presents some sort of coherent point while following accepted grammatical and capitalization practices.
7:39PM all you deemed from the information presented above was what you felt you needed to criticize about accepted grammatical and capitalization practices, not the truth, facts, and causes of the failure of the American Educational System. Yet, we all see you have nothing to add, no solutions, no facts, we know you enjoy back seat driving, so stay seated, while the rest of us accomplish things and truly understand what is happening. Too many administrators hired to enforce diversity lead by a teacher's union to follow the script of the Democratic party, to indoctrinate students, which is why we will continue to create lack-luster, barely educated students, to continue the downfall and rankings in the United States and World. Got It!
In the late 80s early 90s we had no AC, no money for construction paper for art. Crumbling buildings, looking at you West Central lead paint. Let the kids deal we did and it built character!
I feel that once Dick and Jane learn to read they should begin to develop the ability to read something and pick out the main idea.
Dick and Jane should also be able to write a brief essay that is relevant and adresses something related to a main topic.
In this case the main idea of this post is whether the taxpayers of the Joplin R-8 school district should approve additional tax revenues in the future by voting to extend an existing tax that is going to expire.
Commenters are supposed to respond to Randy's post.
Also, just because someone calls it 'information' doesn't mean it is.
No one should have any obligation to read or respond to yet another in a long series of repetitive long winded semi coherent (at best) rantings posted here or anywhere else.
Oh Mylanta.
I won't be reading any of that 4:24pm.
im happy for you tho, or sorry that happened.
