Mercy athletic trainer charged with sexually assaulting third Carthage High School student

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office has filed sexual abuse and sexual contact with a student charges involving a third Carthage High School student against a former Mercy athletic trainer.

Ryan Keith Palmer, 53, Carthage, already faced the same charges for his alleged actions involving two students.

Palmer was working at the school as part of Mercy's contract with the Carthage R-9 School District to provide athletic trainer services.

In a news release, Prosecuting Attorney Theresa Kenney said the charges against Palmer have all been combined into one criminal case.

Jasper County Circuit Court records indicate Palmer is also being investigated by the State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. which appears to be looking into Palmer's medical license.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, in Jasper County Circuit Court in Carthage.

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's news release is printed below:

Jasper County Prosecutor Theresa Kenney announces that the charges against Ryan Palmer, involving three separate victims, have now been filed together in a single criminal case.

This decision was made after a third victim was identified. Under Missouri law, charges may be joined in one case when they arise from a related pattern of behavior, involve similar methods, or rely on overlapping evidence.

In this matter, the allegations share significant common elements, making a combined filing both
appropriate and necessary. Filing the charges together promotes efficiency and consistency.

“My office is committed to ensuring that every victim is heard and that every case is handled with fairness, integrity, and respect,” the Prosecuting Attorney said.

“Combining these charges allows us to move forward in the most effective and responsible way under the law.”

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

After they combine charges someone should combine their fist with his face.

Can anyone knowledgeable in legal things confirm if this is a good thing? My first thought was what happens if they don’t have enough evidence in 1 or 2 of the other cases, does that put the 3rd victim’s case at risk? Or does combining them ensure that proper justice will be served. It’s fair to note that I think the prosecutor is criminally lazy and I worry she was just trying to lighten her work load somehow.
