Pedestrians, you must look out for Cars and Drivers, please slow down and watch out for Pedestrians, especially Children, People on Bikes, and on Motorcycles.
People think they can just run in front of cars. Don’t be that guy.
A retired Georgia Judge, Jolly Walter Matthews, 86, was attempting to walk across Range Line just south of 32nd Street, when he was hit by a dune buggy and then two other vehicles. When I was in Journalism Class, High School Newspaper, Year Book Staff, and College Newspaper - We were taught to always answer the following for every story: 5-W's and H, Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How - I guess Journalism has changed in the last several decades?
2:09 yes you are correct but since the family had not been notified, no name was being released. The information came directly from the Joplin police department, Mr Turner was not at the scene of the accident. Most readers are able to understand where his information comes from, when reading his reports.
6:17PM - WRONG AGAIN! The Name had been released - where do you think the Information came from in the first place, from another News Lead, which got it from the Newton County Coroner’s Office / Police Department! Every story is developing until all the questions have been answered, 5-W's and H. You just have to keep asking and updating, that is why they call it News, it is either Old News, Current News, or Updated/Latest News! We are assuming then that the Story will be Updated on the Main Blog?

JOPLIN, Mo. — A retired Georgia judge was killed Thursday night in Joplin.
According to JPD, it happened just before 9 o’clock on South Range Line Road.
According to the Newton County Coroner’s Office, Jolly Walter Matthews, 86, was attempting to walk across Range Line just south of 32nd Street, when he was hit by a dune buggy and then two other vehicles.
Matthews died at the scene. He had been in town with friends for a hunting trip.
Joplin police say it remains an active investigation.
7:17 if you bothered reading the entire article, it states it very plainly at the bottom, that next of kin had not been notified at the time Mr Turner posted this article. Reading comprehension is an important tool.
2:09 since you were so concerned with journalism slipping in the past few years, and felt the Mr. Turner wasn’t doing his best at digging in to the story and releasing all of the information, you then decided to release your own information. Unfortunately, for any of the readers of your released information, it does appear that some of that information, was incorrect. Mr. Matthews III was from Harrisburg, Mississippi, not Georgia as you had stated. He was a retired LT. Col and an attorney, not a Judge as you also stated. This information was not released until Tuesday June 30th, 2026. I do believe the first duty of a true professional journalist, is to make sure any and all information released is accurate. Which is what Mr. Turner seems to do with all of his news articles, especially when his articles come directly from our local police department’s. The information released only today was because of needing to notify his next of kin, which again is in the last paragraph of Mr. Turner’s article, which you seemed to deride in your comments.
