Long, Hartzler vote to extend portions of Patriot Act

Seven of Missouri's nine-member delegation to the House of Representatives voted Tuesday to extend portions of the Patriot Act, including the two newcomers from this corner of the state, Republicans Billy Long and Vicky Hartzler.

The vote, which would have extended the government's right to access individual library records and allow roving wiretaps on surveillance targets, fell seven shy of the two-thirds necessary.

The only members of the delegation to vote against the extension were Democrats Lacy Clay and Emanuel Cleaver. Joining Long and Hartzler, were Republicans Blaine Luetkemeyer, Jo Ann Emerson, and Sam Graves, and Democrat Russ Carnahan.

This is great. We need to protect our constitution and this is why we elected the TEA party members. Let’s hope they don’t get renewed by simple majority before the end of the month.
