Joplin businesswoman Peggy Newton waived the reading of the grand jury indictment and pleaded not guilty to 25 counts of fraud and forgery during a 10-minute arraignment this morning in federal court in Springfield.
After the government made no detention request, Mrs. Newton was release on a personal recognizance bond.
Mrs. Newton, 38, allegedly bilked her former business partner at Evergreen and Amber, Diane Pine, out of approximately $300,000, allegedly forging Mrs. Pine's signature on various checks, creating credit card accounts in Mrs. Pine's name, and buying personal items with company money.

Here's the bottom line people. If the government didn't have enough dirt on her then they wouldn't have bothered to indict her. All she has in defense of these charges is her word! Unfortunately for her she left a paper trail. If she wiggles out of these charges and doesn't get jail time the Civil Law suit will prevail, as it did with OJ, and she will pay dearly. One nice thing about all this is that Peggy will never own another business in Joplin! The only job she will ever get is Newton's Jewelery counter help, if they stay in business after all this.

Why don't you stick with what you "know" instead of speculation. Mr. Hall walked away because he didn't break any laws. The state of Oklahoma had made such a mess of their own laws and was looking for somewhere to make up the $$ they had lost. Mr. Hall was found to be operating within all legal boundaries. You really don't have the "rights" you think you do when it comes to the law. If the government gets upset with you, for whatever reason, they will find something to try to pin on you.

A couple of observations
1) Peggy must have had one heck of a shoe fetish.
2) DP should be the spokesperson for Lifelock.
Peggy Newton deserves every means of punishment possible and more. She is not a good person in any shape or form and deserves everything. I hope that you get the worse punishment possible.
