Aide charged with furnishing pornographic materials to minor was in charge of Kinder's interns

When he fired Eric Feltner, after Feltner was charged with two counts of furnishing pornographic material to a minor, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder left himself with two vacancies.

Not only does Kinder have to find a new chief of staff, but he also has to find someone else to take care of his intern program.

Teenagers who wished to apply for internships in the lieutenant governor's office had to go through Feltner, a man whom Jefferson City police accuse of indulging in a sexual conversation with someone he thought was a 13-year-old while using the modest screen name "bestinmo."

Feltner's photo and name have already been removed from the lieutenant governor's website.

How sad, right or wrong, now the guy has screwed up his entire remaining life.

He needs some help.

As a fellow Missouri teacher of communication arts with 7th and 8th graders, I can't help but wonder what type of lessons YOU are teaching students. In your haste to proclaim Feltner's guilt to the world (an unproven guilt), your comments are biased and inflammatory in nature. Eric Feltner was not fired, he was given the opportunity to resign. There is a difference. The distinction is in no way clear as you repeatedly refer to his firing, not resignation. As you seek to provide information and observations as a model for your students, please attempt to do so in a way that is both honest and ethical.

Now Heather, he was shoved out the door, call it what you want. He was fired, he was given the opportunity to write his own letter or else.

I too am a fellow Missouri teacher. I am curious to know why you have continued to falsely say that Eric Feltner was fired? Every piece of journalism I have read has said Eric was allowed to resign. There is a HUGE difference in resigning and firing. If Mr. Kinder had wished to make a point of firing Mr. Feltner, he could have done it, but he chose to allow him to resign. Why have you taken it upon yourself to fire him? Please, stop and think about the things your are presenting to your students and their parents. Are you presenting the news fairly? Is this how you would wish to be treated if you were accused of misconduct in the classroom? Do the moral thing and correct your injustice, please!

Heather and other teacher: You two are new here aren't you?

That's the only explanation for your lack of knowledge that everything posted by RT is a reflection of his own shortcomings and cannot be counted on to be either completely factual much less completely truthful.

I'm beginning to see the light. I find it hard to believe this man is allowed to stand in a classroom! I am appalled at his attitude. I admit I am a friend of Mr. Feltner's family and have known him since he was a child. I am as shocked as everyone else, but would expect everyone, even a sleaze such as RT to receive the benefit of a "fair shake". And people wonder what is wrong with the young people of today??? Maybe RT is the one that needs help!! Would you care to comment, Mr. Turner?

What are two teachers doing coming to the defense of someone who got on the internet, chatted with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl and asked what color bra and panties she was wearing? The judicial system has to run its course, but still, as teachers, you should distance yourself from Erlc Feltner, not defend him. That's his lawyer's job. I would rather want my kids being taught by someone who exposes an accused pedophile than people who would associate themselves with an accused pedophile!!!

"Resigned" is just a euphemism for "fired." Feltner was given the opportunity to resign on his own, or be fired. It's just a technicality. I think it's fair for Randy to see he was fired.

For the "journalism professor"

I don't know if Randy took journalism classes or not, but I suspect if he did, you were one of his instructors (excuse me, professors). Your comments are as incorrect as Randy....if you taught Randy, you did a good job...from your comments, it's obvious he thinks as you do - wrongly!

But, on the the other hand, he's not really a journalist at all..he's a partism blogger.

You people trying to spin this for Feltner need to get a life and get off this topic. From the official statement from Kinder's office, June 6, 2008: "At my immediate request, Mr. Feltner delivered to me his letter of resignation as Chief of Staff of my office." If your boss immediately requests your letter of resignation, it's just because he doesn't want to pay unemployment. You've just been fired and being given the chance to resign is like putting perfume on a fresh pile of dog poo. Deal with it, Dude was FIRED!!!
