Nearly 1,000 people
attended the funeral of former Webb City Police officer Jeff Taylor today, according to the Kansas City Star.
Taylor, who had been working for the Riverside Police Department near Kansas City, was struck by lightning after he came to Joplin to respond to the tornado May 22:
On Wednesday, Taylor was remembered as a devoted husband and loving father. Taylor also was lauded as a police officer for his commitment, sacrifice and service.
“It is important to remember that heroism reveals itself in effort, regardless of outcome,” said Gov. Jay Nixon during the 45-minute memorial service.
Nixon said Taylor was like many dedicated police officers, firefighters and emergency workers who responded to the tragedy in Joplin.
“They have a spirit that compels them to run toward trouble — not away from it,” he said.

One of the best police officers I knew. He played with my father on the same softball team and Jeff was a very talented and trustworthy man. After each game we would hang outside the complex in the parking lot and he was very funny, caring, and kind. He had an amazing K-9 and everybody liked him. I hope his family is coping well and my heart goes out to all of his loved ones.
I don't know if I'd want to be standing next to a pig struck by lightning during a tornado.
