Globe reporter: Nobody was turned away from Joplin School Board Candidate Forum

Shortly after I posted my criticism of Joplin Globe Editor Carol Stark for lecturing about open government, but barring the public from the Joplin R-8 Board of Education, one of the panelists from that even, Globe statehouse reporter Eli Yokley tweeted the following response:

That is absurd, Randy. Nobody was turned away, to my knowledge, and the public had an opportunity to submit questions.

The public did have the opportunity to submit questions and the ones from the public that were used were excellent questions. While I did not hear of anyone being turned away from the forum, one of the reasons was that it was made clear that the March 24 school board forum was not open to the public, while the March 31 Joplin City Council forum was, to the point of having to pick up tickets at the Joplin Globe office to get an early seat.

Oh, that's just insulting. It was made perfectly clear that the public was not wanted at that forum. Many of us wanted to go, but didn't bother to show up at the door so the Globe, not to mention the R8 spy patrol, could turn us away. I call BS on this comment. Young Mr. Yokley needs to get his facts right before he pops off.

Remind me, which city council and school board candidates accepted money from the Joplin Progress Committee.

Its easy to not turn anyone away if no one was invited. But yokley thinks everyone is as dumb as he is
