The new player in the Joplin political game, the secretive Joplin Progress Committee held a sparsely attended candidate rally at Granny Shaffer's Tuesday night.
The committee, which has indicated its interest in electing city council and school board members who will leave the administrators alone and allow current policies to continue, spent $269.56 on the rally, according to a 24-hour report filed today with the Missouri Ethics Commission.
The Committee received a $250 contribution from Nancy Good of Waco Title, who also serves as the treasurer for the school board campaign of Shawn McGrew.
The committee, which has raised $30,527.46, still has $2,573.71 in the bank, according to the report.
The Joplin Progress Committee is supporting City Council candidates Ryan Stanley, Miranda Lewis, Mike Seibert, Mike Woolston, and Gary Shaw and R-8 Board of Education candidates Lynda Banwart, Jeff Flowers, Jeff Koch, Shawn McGrew, and Randy Steele.
The committee is providing campaign contributions to all of the above, except for City Council candidate Miranda Lewis and Board of Education candidate Jeff Koch, who would not accept the money.

They need to keep a little in reserve. Some of their ilk, or those they support, might need bail money.
