OBJECTIVE
Serves as a good will ambassador for Joplin Schools. Works directly with district staff and the public by managing the district administration phone system, greeting visitors and providing directions or other information. Provides administrative support to the human resource department.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Some post-secondary education preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to manage a multi-line phone system effectively.
- Proficiency in computer operations such as word processing, excel spreadsheets, and other programs central to office efficiency.
- Ability to become proficient in the use of district programs and applications such as the online substitute placement program, online employment application system and the student information system.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills, with ability to maintain professionalism even in difficult situations.
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
- Ability to work collectively with HR team.

- Serves as support for employee relations initiatives and activities.

And what isn't mentioned is that if you're really, really lucky, you'll get to go hunting for Easter eggs on the lawn of the Administration Building! Why, truly, you might get a special prize like a water bottle!! Woohoo! Big times in R8, for sure.
And, you'll get the satisfaction of knowing how special you are to work there. To make the teachers feel better, they got to pay five dollars for a Bright Futures fund raiser in order to wear jeans on the same day that Central Office staff was hunting for eggs. We'll hope those same funds forked over by staff who haven't had a decent raise in years and years didn't pay for that frolicking good fun for office staff. The burning question is, did CJ play Easter bunny and wear a costume? That ranks up there with carving pumpkins, for sure.
Randy are you implying a receptionist with admin with little to no college can make $50,000 a year? Teachers with a bachelors don't make that to start and they do the grunt work.
Not at all. I am sure the receptionist's pay will be reasonable. I wanted to remind people just how many highly-paid jobs there are at the administration building.
So, am I to understand that a district that is bouncing checks, and whose credit is being cut off in local stores, is wasting money on Easter egg hunts for adults? Sheer stupidity. What self-respecting adult would even want to do that, much less at taxpayer expense? Don't ask me for more money, R8. The answer will be a profound "no," at least until this administration is gone and a more responsible group is put in place. I won't be guilty of denying children what they need in the future, but at this point, it would simply be throwing good money after bad as long as the current administration is in place.

The Easter egg deal is annoying, for sure, but it is a drop in the bucket of recent unnecessary expenses:
1. $125,000 to repair the botched landscaping at East, thanks to the same mysterious faux landscaping company that underbid everyone for the JHS job.
2. $40,000-50,000 to build a retaining wall on the west side of the East property since R8 went over the property line there.
3. The grand winner of them all: Apparently, the current wiring at the new JHS is not up to code. It is alloy wiring and should be copper. Empire Electric is refusing to power up the place until it meets code. To replace it is estimated, from what I've heard, between $1.4-4 million. I hope this information is incorrect. I truly do. I also heard that rather than fix the problem, that Dr. Huff is trying to get the alloy approved. My question is, why? If it isn't the best deal, then why was it used to begin with, and why would you want it? I don't want that building burning down around my daughter's head, and I would hope that the other parents feel the same way. If you have a spouse or family member employed there, I expect you feel the same way, also. We don't want second-rate. We are paying taxes through the nose for what was promised to be a state of the art building. It isn't enough just for it to look good. It better darn sure last and keep the people inside it safe.
Should the city find the alloy wiring acceptable, what are they going to say to all other businesses and entities that were forced to use the more expensive copper? Does that mean all future construction can be alloy? Is Joplin suddenly going to have to worry more about fires than storms? These are questions that demand answers. I'm hoping, Dr. Huff, since we know you and yours read this blog, that you will inform us as to why you are fighting to keep subpar wiring in that building, and if you can tell use what other short cuts you and the contractors have taken? We need answers.
This district just absolutely has to have an audit by the state. There is no other choice. Anyone who fights that is telling us that he, or she, has something to hide. Let's show the patrons of R8 that Jeff Flowers and CJ Huff are telling the truth about being transparent and let's get that audit now! I'm sure they'll be more than happy to cooperate.
Has anyone noticed the strikers on the JHS lot? I heard it's an information strike, not a labor strike. I hope someone can give us the details. All I heard is that they have been stripped of their benefits--like the bus drivers were--and they aren't happy about it.
So, why CJ lives in his very, very nice house, his kids swim in his very nice pool while receiving their private swimming lessons, while that bloated income provides them with every wish and want, he strips away benefits from the working class. Cake, anyone?
Any word on when the 2014-2015 school year will start? Rumor that my student is hearing is that it will be after labor day due to The High School from not being finished.(Hearing this from teachers)

The calendar will be voted on Monday night before the new board members can voice an opinion or vote, which disappoints the majority of R8 employees. As it is now, the students are supposed to return by the 25th of August. They will have a longer day so that their year will end at the usual time in May. Staff returns on the 15th. They don't like that, with so many days of PD and wasted time before the kids come in, but no one cares what they like.
Wiring may not be the only issue at the moment. Word on the street is they are so broke and over budget on the new jhs that they can't put up interior divider walls between classrooms. I hope that isn't true. Maybe Dr. Huff can confirm or deny that issue while he's explaining the wiring.
Is it true there aren't enough classrooms in the new JHS for every teacher? In a building that big? What's the problem? That's stupid, if it's true. I also heard that they didn't leave space for the special ed teachers. But you can bet they have plenty of space for the athletes and the top kids. You know, the ones who get books, too. Parents with regular kids get to find crap on the internet all night.
Another department that needs to be addressed is Special Ed, Mark Barlass and Robin Duke for starters, Special Ed staff are bullied and treated like second class.
Maybe the Turner report can post the contract for the electrical work? Just in case there is something to look for.
There are issurs all over the place. Irving had teachers teaching in 'neighborhood' . Thats a brand new school .there should be more than enough roim.
I have heard that the school year starting late is due to Jason Cravens throwing calendar together without input from others. He did it, handed it to Huff and BAM!
The new JHS was underfunded even before the bond issue was forced down our throats, evidenced by the fact that 30,000 sq. ft was eliminated from FTC the day after the bond was passed.
As for the subpar wiring, while I agree it is a real concern, why aren't these same parents concerned about the glass walled monstrosity in tornado alley? It must be because there are storm shelters in the building...at the extreme ends of the building. Good luck getting there in time.
