At some point this afternoon or Sunday, the state of Missouri will pass the 2,000 mark in deaths due to COVID-19.
The addition of 42 deaths puts the current count at 1,994, according to statistics posted Friday by the Department of Health and Senior Services.
The state had an all-time high 1,068 people hospitalized, with 1,987 new cases confirmed, the second highest one-day total.
The percentage of people testing positive for the coronavirus inched upward to 11.8 percent.
