City of Joplin announces changes to transportation services

(From the City of Joplin)

The City’s Public Transportation division has announced two adjustments to the service, starting Monday, February 28, 2022.

The Sunshine Lamp Trolley will begin operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday; and the MAPS service will operate four vans instead of five during their regular hours of 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

The City of Joplin offers public transportation to citizens through the Sunshine Lamp Trolley system as well as the MAPS service. The Sunshine Lamp Trolley provides three routes: Red, Blue, and Green. Riders are able to get on and off at designated bus stops along the routes. They also have the option of scheduling a “deviated” pick-up or drop-off at a location within ¾-mile from the trolley route. Deviated stops can be scheduled with at least a one-hour advanced notice.

The MAPS system works with the trolley, providing curb-to-curb bus service on a pre-scheduled basis to residents of the greater Joplin metropolitan area. Residents schedule rides to pick them up at a location and take them to any destination within the MAPS operating boundaries. MAPS service is currently available in Joplin, Carterville, Webb City, Duenweg, and Oronogo.

“The City is adjusting this service to utilize the resources available, while still making the service available to our riders,” said Robert Lolley, Transit Coordinator.

Please contact the MAPS office, 417-626-8607, if needing to schedule a ride with MAPS.
