Joplin man sentenced to six years for child abuse, molestation charge dismissed

A Joplin man who punched a 5-year-old girl in the stomach so hard that it eventually caused her to go into septic shock, was sentenced Monday to six years in prison.

As part of a plea agreement, a child molestation charge against Justin Black, 35, was dismissed.

Black entered an Alford plea April 18. Under an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges the prosecution has enough evidence to win its case.

Black punched the girl on June 4, 2017. The molestation occurred between January and June 2017.

So he doesn’t get registered and gets away with child molestation as part of a plea agreement. Cool. Sick

Why does a plea agreement ever enter the discussion if a criminal is guilty of all the charges brought against him? I just dont understand why the system/courts/judges/lawyers need to offer an agreement if a person has committed the crimes. I'd say Justin Black dodged a bullet in this case. Lucky for him. So hideously unfair for his victim.

We don't know all of the facts. Maybe she disserved it.

Worked with this dude for 5 years had not a clue any of this was going on. From what I’ve heard from people more family with the situation the molestation was greatly influenced by the mother of the little girl to get harsher charges. Again only what I’ve heard from someone closer to the situation than me. Absolutely he should be in prison longer for the stomach punching though.
