Man in red shirt, khaki shorts arrested for making terroristic threat at Terrace Green Apartments

A Springfield man who was wearing a red shirt and khaki shorts is charged with misdemeanor making a terroristic threat after repeatedly pulling a fire alarm at 3 a.m. today at the Terrace Green Apartments, 701 Walnut Ridge Street, Joplin.

There was no threat of fire at the apartments when David Shane Nichols, 38, allegedly pulled the alarm, according to the probable cause statement.

Using the description of Nichols provided by apartment complex residents, Jasper County Sheriff's Office deputies found him at a closed business across the street.

Nichols told deputies he pulled the alarm because he had been "led astray," according to the probable cause statement.

After Nichols gave consent for a search, deputies found a letter addressed to an apartment resident. The apartment resident said the letter must have been taken out of his mailbox.

Shortly after he told deputies he was "led astray," Nichols was led away by deputies.

Nichols' arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 5 in Jasper County Circuit Court.
