Video- Chiefs: No comment on Arrowhead Stadium homicide

Help the Turner Report and Inside Joplin grow

Sometimes when I see the comments to some of the posts on the Turner Report and Inside Joplin I wonder if there are not thousands out there who would like to see me fall flat on my face (or who believe that I have done so already).

I have seen some criticisms that ring true and have helped me improve the coverage my blogs offer.

On the other hand, I have noted that the most critical of those who comment often have nothing to say about the topic at hand, but opt for attacking me personally. When that is the best that they can do, I know I am on the right track.

If you want news and commentary that you are not going to get anywhere else in southwest Missouri, I will provide it. And this is not a flash in the pan thing. I have been blogging (which some snobs look down upon) for 10 years and I have been reporting in this area for the past 36 years. I will not run out of stories; I will not run out of things to say.

But in order for these blogs to improve, every once in a while I am going to make a pitch for the business side of the operation. This is one of those pitches.

Advertisements

You will notice that over the past few weeks, my blogs have begun carrying advertising from Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, and Best Buy. I don't make a cent off those three companies unless orders are placed. I am not asking any of you to buy anything you did not plan on buying, but if you plan on buying something from one of those three businesses, I would love it if you did so through those ads. And you might check, out the Cyber Monday specials that are being advertised in the Wal-Mart banners at the top of my blogs. Those sales are for today only.

Books and E-Books

For those who are interested, my books from Small Town News and Devil's Messenger through Let Teachers Teach and including No Child Left Alive and the three Joplin Tornado books are for sale and can be purchased at my Amazon page, for those who are not able to visit the retail outlets in Joplin, Carthage, and Granby.

Subscriptions

For those who value what the Turner Report, Inside Joplin, Turner Resports, Inside the Ozarks, and Inside Joplin Obituaries are providing for southwest Missouri and for the entire state, please consider a voluntary subscription, which can be accomplished through the button on the upper right hand side of this page. The subscription price is $10 for three months and it can be paid through PayPal or by credit card through that button. You can also mail $10 to me at 2306 E. 8th, Apt. G, Joplin, Missouri.

Again, if you think it is important to have a voice that is not beholden to the powers that be in Joplin, Jasper County, or in the state of Missouri, please consider a subscription.

Some subscriptions have been trickling in so far, but surprisingly, almost none of them are coming from Joplin. I hope that is not a sign that people are satisfied with the status quo.

Thanks for reading. Your support is much appreciated.

Video: A look at the Arrowhead Stadium crime scene

KMBC: Police not sure how Arrowhead Stadium victim died

KMBC reports that the Kansas City Police Department is not sure of the cause of death of the man who was killed at Arrowhead Stadium earlier today during the Kansas City Chiefs-Denver Broncos game:

According to investigators, a man saw someone break into his car, a fight ensued and the man who broke into the car collapsed. Police were not sure how he died.
Police Chief Darryl Forte sent a tweet that stated two people are in custody.

NBC Action News report: Arrowhead Stadium victim was from Grandview

KSHB doesn't seem to have run into the same problems as KCTV has with its reporting on the death of a man in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot this afternoon.

Kansas City Police Department officers told 41 Action News that a man with critical injuries was found lying next to a car in the lot at approximately 5:20 p.m. Sunday. The man was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.
The victim was described as a white man in his 20s from Grandview.
Police note there was an apparent struggle between the victim and the two men in custody. Both are being questioned by officers.

Reporters don't know who died at Arrowhead Stadium

They don't know who died in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot this afternoon.
Not the Kansas City police. I am sure the police know exactly who was killed during the confrontation, but KCTV is having a tough night.
At first the station reported that a man and his son had come across another man breaking into their car and the father was killed. The next report said the father lived, but the thief was killed.
The latest report- Different police sources are providing different information on exactly which one of the three men involved in the fight died.
This was the original report
KCTV reports "A man and his son had gone to their vehicle during the game. When they arrived, they found another man rifling through the vehicle and a disturbance broke out. The father apparently died during the fight."

This is the amended report:
Police sources tell KCTV5 that a man and his son had gone to their vehicle during the game. When they arrived, they found another man rifling through the vehicle and a fight broke out. The man who apparently did not belong in the vehicle died.
Police officials did not say whether the two in custody were the father and his son or not.
Officers were called to the scene at 5:20 p.m. The game started at 3:25 p.m.
As noted earlier on the Turner Report, this happens one year to the day after Kansas City linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, then turned the gun on himself in front of Chiefs officials at Arrowhead Stadium.

Correction on Arrowhead Stadium murder: Original report wrong; thief was one who died.

A son apparently did not watch his father get murdered, as was reported moments ago. The original KCTV report indicated it was the father who had died when he and his son came across a man breaking into their car during the Chiefs-Broncos game today at Arrowhead Stadium.

Murder at Arrowhead Stadium

The Kansas City media outlets are reporting that two people are in custody following a homicide in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot.

The murder reportedly happened during the Chiefs loss to the Denver Broncos.

(More to come)

Ron Richard's gun bill- head start on Lt. Governor race?

At first, when Sen. Ron Richard, R-Joplin, voted not to override Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of HB 436, it was looked on as a courageous, sensible vote on a bill that had little substance and is never going to survive a court challenge.

The bill was a complete waste of time.

Nevertheless, when you are a senator with an eye on statewide office and you are a member of a party that has become obsessed with wasting time bellowing at the federal government, you might be throwing aside your future in statewide politics.

So Richard took the unusual step of releasing a complete bill, a reworking of HB 436, well before bills can be prefiled.

It was almost everything a federal government-hating, my guns or the highway Tea Partier could want in a bill. In fact, the only real changes from HB 436 were the elimination of a provision that would make it a crime to publish the names of gun owners and it will not create the spectacle of federal law enforcement officers being arrested if they try to enforce gun laws.

Other than that, it's an open invitation for the same kind of nationwide ridicule that HB 436 brought to the Show-Me State.

Richard's bill is expected to be one of the first to be pre-filed this week.

Just a few highlights from Richard's bill:

-The first five pages are a tirade against the federal government and a rally for 10th Amendment rights.

-Just like HB 436, the bill insists that Missouri will not obey federal gun laws, past, present or future...as if we had any choice.

-The bill prohibits the taxing of guns or ammunition, tracking of gun purchases or ownership because it might create "a chilling effect' on the purchase and ownership of guns.

-School districts may designate one or more teachers at elementary or secondary schools as gun-toting school protection officers. Those teachers would be required to carry guns at all times and if they did not, they could be fired.

-Prohibits health care professionals from asking if a patient is a gun owner or from sharing that information with law enforcement officials if they happen to come upon it.

Missouri has real issues that need to be discussed. Unfortunately, we are going to waste more time with bills like this one.

The only reason the bill is necessary is to save Ron Richard's option of running for lieutenant governor..
