The remarkable turnaround in the news fortunes at KSPR over the past couple of years continued Saturday night as the station won two gold awards, one silver, and one bronze at the annual Kansas City Press Club Heart of America Awards Banquet.
In the general reporting category, Michelle Sherwood and Joel Girdner took the gold with their piece, "No Such Thing as a Free Lunch."
Sister station KY3 took second in that category with "Kettle Corn Security," done by Marie Saavedra and Doug Magditch.
KSPR's other gold award was in the sports category, courtesy of Mike Scott with "MMA: Mariah Reed Debut."
Dori Olmos won the silver in newscast with "Spring flash floods." A bronze was captured by Joanna Small, Joel Girdner, and Dallas Houtz, with "Pseudo Homeowners."
KSPR and KY3 were competing with stations in the above 100 market category, including stations from Kansas City, Wichita and Columbia.
