Rush Limbaugh contributes $100,000 to Joplin tornado recovery effort

(From the City of Joplin)

When native Missourian Rush Limbaugh visited Joplin to share his admiration and encouragement to the men, women and children of our city for their resilience and hard work exhibited since May 22, he also shared another gift to the City: a donation of $100,000.

This donation will go to the Joplin Tornado First Response Fund that has been established in conjunction with the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri.

Mayor Mike Woolston talked with Limbaugh during and after the City's Rockin' 4th of July event held at Landreth Park.

“He provided these funds to support the thousands of people who have been affected by this disaster,” said Woolston. “Although our community suffered a tremendous tragedy, he knows the heart of Joplin is still strong. He has seen that by the work and perseverance exhibited here each day. As he has said, his intent is to help maintain the focus on Joplin as we rebuild.”

Limbaugh brought a semi-truck full of bottled tea products to hand out to those attending the event on July 4th. Joplin was selected as the city to visit because of the number of votes it received through one of his website promotions.

In addition to this gift, many others have shown their love and support to Joplin with donations to this fund. A list of donors can be found on the fund's website at www.joplinrecoveryfund.org .

“We truly appreciate everyone's heartfelt support during these difficult times,” said City Manager Mark Rohr. “We've had significant donations, such as this one, as well as many everyday citizens throughout the country who have held fundraisers in their own community to raise money for Joplin. This includes kids opening a neighborhood lemonade stand, which we probably all did as kids, but they donated all of their proceeds to help Joplin. That sends a pretty powerful message, and we just want to say a very loud and sincere thank you to all who are helping us during this time, whether through donations, volunteering, and other gifts of kind. It's been overwhelming.”

Just another tax write-off.

Too bad my cousin couldn't get reclassified during the Vietnam draft like Rush did for a "Pilonidal cyst." Instead he died there in '67.

To bad I had to go to Viet Nam in 69-70 and Bill Clinton went to Paris to led a anti- war march.

12:04 you are just blowing smoke. No one got a permanent draft deferrment for a polonidal cyst (a boil on the butt for science illiterates like you,) so don't try to slam Rush with untruths.

6:01 You do not know what you are talking about. I received a medical deferment(1Y) in 1969 for it and when drafted a second time in 1970 received a 4F for it. So please at least speak facts and not just what you think.
