According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Luther Sherman, 38, Joplin, was fleeing from patrol vehicles when it traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a river embankment.
Sherman died at Mercy Joplin.
A passenger in his vehicle a 36-year-old Joplin man, was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
The fatality was the second this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
(Note: The name of the deceased comes from the coroner's office. The Highway Patrol does not release names of people in accidents.)
