Bomb threat mars first day of spring semester at MSSU

(From Missouri Southern State University)

Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) received an email the morning of January 12 reporting a bomb threat at the George A. Spiva Library. In response, the university immediately activated its Emergency Management Plan.

The library was evacuated as a precaution, and all other campus buildings were instructed to shelter in place. Local authorities responded promptly, including an explosives detection canine, which conducted a thorough search of the library. No evidence of a bomb or other threat was found.

The reported threat appears to be similar to messages received by other universities earlier today. Following the all-clear from authorities, campus operations have returned to normal.

The safety and well-being of the MSSU community remain the university’s top priority.

Students who may be experiencing stress or anxiety related to this incident were encouraged to contact Counseling Services for support at 417-625-9559 or CounselingServices@mssu.edu.
