Neosho woman charged with domestic assault after stabbing causes life-threatening injuries

The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged a Neosho woman with first-degree domestic assault after a stabbing Sunday left the victim at Mercy Joplin with life-threatening injuries.

An arrest warrant was issued for Elizabeth Jo Moppin (DOB 1989) with bond set at $100,000 cash only.

From the probable cause statement:

On January 25, 2026, at approximately 2210 hours, I responded to (address redacted) Neosho, Missouri regarding a domestic assault involving a stabbing.

Upon arrival, the victim was observed to be suffering from a potentially life-threatening arterial laceration to his upper right bicep. The bleeding was so profuse it required the application of a tourniquet by a Newton County deputy to prevent further blood loss.

Investigation at the scene revealed a heavy trail of blood leading from the victim's location to the interior of the residence. Inside the bedroom, a large serrated bread knife covered in blood was located in the center of a large pool of blood.

Blood splatter and bloody handprints were observed throughout the living room, bathroom and bedroom.

The suspect, Elizabeth Moppin, was located inside the residence with blood-stained clothing. Moppin admitted to officers on scene that she intentially grabbed the knife and stabbed {the victim} in the arm.

While Moppin claimed the assault was in self-defense because {the victim} had "choked her out," a physical examination of Moppin at Freeman Neosho Hospital and while on scene revealed no visible injuries, bruising or marks on her neck or person consistent with her statement.

Moppin was observed to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The probable cause statement indicates Moppin has "a history of being violent."

The case was investigated by the Neosho Police Department, aided by the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
