Just a few days after a McDonald County Press article reported Police Chief Mike Akins had asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to conduct an investigation into nearly $200,000 in missing city funds, Goodman Mayor Clay Sexson says every penny of the money has been found.
And he's upset about the McDonald County Press coverage because "I feel that our town was wrongfully put into a bad light."
The problem, Sexson said in a letter that was posted on the city's Facebook page, was caused by the software system the city is using and that the city had been aware of the software problem for some time.
The Press article noted that the state auditor had begun an investigation into the missing funds. Sexson said he welcomes the auditor.
"It can never hurt to have more eyes on funds, especially when it comes to the City."
Sexson's letter does not address why the city's police chief told the newspaper that the Highway Patrol had been asked to conduct an investigation
"That kind of money doesn't just disappear, and with nobody wanting to speak out about it and try to find it, to me it seems as though it's trying to be covered," Akins said in the Press article.
