A Joplin man pleaded not guilty to a second-degree rape charge this morning in Jasper County Circuit Court.
A bond modification hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday for Valerian Ifamilik (DOB 1973), who is being held in the Jasper County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
According to the probable cause statement, Ifamilik allegedly had "sexual intercourse with the victim knowing she didn't consent" January 22.
A notation was made on the probable cause statement that Ifamilik is unlikely to appear at court hearings if he is released on bond because he "is not a U. S. citizen and has only been in the United States for approximately one year."
