AT&T hero Sharyl Nelson, Webb City, killed after saving a family

Sharyl Anyssa Nelsen of Webb City, Missouri, passed away in the catastrophic tornado on May 22, 2011.


Sharyl was born on November 11, 1976 in Brownsville, Texas. She was working as a Sales Representative for the AT&T store on Rangeline when the tornado struck. Sharyl was able to help a family out of harms way moments before the tornado struck the building.

Sharyl was a loving mother and wife, a caring daughter and sister, and a nuturing person whose heart and arms were open to everyone who was blessed to have known her.

Sharyl is survived by her loving husband, Chad Nelsen, her beautiful children, Matilyn Jade Perry(14), and Aaron Cain Nelsen(10), her step daughter Ashley Nelsen Baker, her parents Yolanda Reed and Ernest San Miguel, her step father Terrel Reed, her sisters Cynthia Hopkins and Sandra Mendoza, her brother Ernie San Miguel, and her step brother Tim Reed.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Enrique and Cecilia Ybarra and Pedro and Josefina San Miguel, and her step sister Tamara Reed.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Sunday May 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Pastor Larry Garfield, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday May 28, 2011 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel.
