Ed Martin accepted the formal nomination as Republican candidate for Attorney General on Tuesday night, besting Livingston County Prosecutor Adam Warren.
Chosen as the Republican candidate to contest party-switcher incumbent Chris Koster, who changed parties in 2008, Martin garnered more than 70% of the vote, winning by the largest margin of any contested statewide GOP candidate.
“I am honored to accept the nomination as Republican candidate for Attorney General, and commend Mr. Warren on a race well run,” Martin said.
“I got into this race because I saw an opportunity to make a difference in favor of Missouri values, including freedom and limited, effective, honest government. Liberals like Chris Koster are at the center of a Jefferson City political machine that is out of control, corrupt, deaf to the Missouri majority, and heedless of the state and federal Constitutions.”
With the GOP nomination won, Martin turns full attention to facing Attorney General Koster in November.
“November will be critical to Missouri’s future in many ways, and important to our nation. Here in Missouri we have a corrupt Attorney General who is unabashedly using the office to benefit his campaign. Koster earned the title of “Obama’s Lawyer” when he raised the white flag against ObamaCare, and in the process cheated Missourians out of a day in court. When 71% of Missourians voted against ObamaCare in 2010, Chris Koster did nothing. When Obama and his administration forced an anti-freedom mandate on Missouri businesses, Chris Koster did nothing. When Secretary of State Robin Carnahan wrote biased ballot language, Koster did nothing. Again and again, Chris Koster has not stood up for Missourians.
“We don’t need any more of Obama’s lawyer. We need the people’s lawyer. That is why we will have a new legal strategy to stop ObamaCare within my first minute in office. ObamaCare is fundamentally flawed and a threat to our health, economy, and freedom and must be stopped."
Martin also noted his position as GOP Victory 2012 Chairman, and pledged to help bring all Republicans together after a long primary season. “I will do everything I can as Victory chairman to promote the cause of freedom and help ensure Republican victories in November.”
