It seems like we have another showdown between cable outlets and programming providers every couple of months.
A few months ago, it was the Turner Broadcasting channels, including TNT, TBS, CNN, and Turner Classic Movies that were off the air for weeks.
This time, Cable One has removed the Viacom channels, including MTV, TV Land, CMT, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, VH1, Spike, and BET, which are on the cable's basic package, and other programming that is featured on other packages.
This time, however, Cable One appears ready to immediately replace the channels with new ones, instead of the prolonged wait we had to go through last time.
Cable One posted the following message on its website:
Cable ONE and Viacom were unable to come to a fair agreement by our March 31 contract expiration date, so we were forced to remove these channels from our line-up.
Viacom asked for a rate increase greater than 100%, despite the fact that viewing is down on 12 of their 15 networks – some by more than 30% since 2010. We asked Viacom to either reduce their rates or allow us to drop some of their less popular networks to reduce the total cost. They refused these reasonable requests.
Cable ONE has let these networks go and expects to add many top-rated networks you’ve requested and expand several other highly-requested networks to our most popular level of service. Some of the new networks include BBC America, Sprout, Investigation Discovery, the Blaze, Hallmark Channel, National Geographic, TV One, Sundance, and more. Beginning April 2, you can view your new networks and their channel locations by visiting www.StopProgrammingHikes.com and selecting your city.
Cable One listed the following networks that are being removed:
Viacom channels vary across our markets, but may have included the following channels in your area: Centric, Spike, CMT, Comedy Central, BET, MTV, MTV2, MTV Hits, VH-1, VH-1, Classic Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nick Teen, Nick Toons, and TV LAND.

Why do they keep dropping channels? I understand the rate increase being high BUT CableOne is constantly raising rates and we don't get any more channels and the reception drops during shows. Now we even have some channels that are the same on the basic and next level up. I wish there was a cable company to give them some competition. I don't want satellite. I want decent cable.
With whatever connections the Turner Report has to Turner Broadcasting is it any surprise that Joplin is in trouble? Obvious proof of who is really behind the curtains pulling the strings? Wonder why Anstun and the Glube haven't noticed this. Maybe they are too intimidated to report the true facts. The secret story of how the local developers will profit when the new Obama high speed train station is built is another scandal that Turner is probably behind.
Tomorrow's hot rumor: Did a secret affair with someone in Joplin really break up Ted's marriage?
Less and less service at a greater cost is exactly why my family streams television! We save about $1,100 a year. As a Joplin R-8 teacher, I cannot afford the luxury of cable or satellite!
Im glad they dropped Viacom. Viacom is ridiculous

May I suggest you back to JHS and ask that your diploma be returned?!! Your post is RIDICULOUS!!!
7:49 It is April fools and Joplin has a few!
I cut cable a few years back apart from the internet service, and I also do the streaming thing. Adopted roku early on and have been thrilled. Too many choices for what to watch. Don't necessarily need a roku for it, but very satisfied with streaming. No doubt in my mind this is the future.
I dropped cable none when you couldn't watch the cards in the playof's won't be long before cable is like a 8 track tape local progams are pretty good
those were the main channels i watched they need to bring them back
