A Greenfield High School teacher will not be back next year after the R-4 Board of Education fired her for allegedly teaching critical race theory.
Kim Morrison wasn't teaching Critical Race Theory, but she was teaching the novel Dear Martin by Nic Stone and gave students a worksheet titled "How Racially Privileged Are You?" according to an article by Springfield News-Leader education reporter Claudette Riley.
And that was enough.
Parents complained, school board members listened and when it came time to renew the contracts of non-tenured teachers, Morrison, who taught at Greenfield for four years after leaving education for several years to raise a family, was voted out.
The superintendent acknowledged that the worksheet was the reason she was dismissed.
In the letter (Superintendent Chris) Kell confirmed the board's decision not to rehire Morrison for the 2022-23 year. It stated this reason: "Your decision to incorporate the worksheet associated with the novel 'Dear Martin,' due to the content and subject matter."
The News-Leader article quoted Kell as saying the board vote was not unanimous and "there was administrative support for her return."

The issue is that the teacher introduced content into curriculum that was not approved prior to instruction. Anymore, classroom educational content and instructional support materials have to be approved by the curriculum/administration. Following in place protocols protects the teacher.
Sounds like a few administrators need the boot as well.
How was that worksheet, “How Racially Privileged Are You?” NOT crt? I’m not going to just take your obviously biased word over it, esp when the title of the ws smacks of race baiting.
