(From Fourth District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler)Last month, millions of women and girls watched as a biological male dominated the 500-meter freestyle race at the women’s NCAA Division I national championship, beating two Olympic medalists and finishing 1.75 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer, Emma Weyant.
This is wrong.
Title IX was enacted to provide women and girls with a right to equal opportunities to obtain an education and pursue excellence in athletics. But now, the Department of Education (DOE) wants to reverse that by mandating the NCAA’s misguided policy nationwide.
They are issuing a proposed rule to redefine sex-based discrimination by adding sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes along with females.
This woke Biden agency is effectively setting the stage for the elimination of female sports, threatening students’ privacy and safety, and reversing decades of hard-won progress and accomplishments by and for girls and young women.
That’s why I led a letter this week to the DOE demanding this rulemaking be withheld and for any related policy guidance be rescinded. Rest assured, I will never stop fighting so our nation’s women and girls can live out their dreams rather than having them squashed by a biological male.
