Webb City R-7 waits 11 days to announce investigation into death of student at high school

The death of a student at Webb City High School May 5 has been the subject of much discussion in the community, but R-7 officials have kept quiet about the death until this morning.

Normally, school districts deal with deaths of students with announcements posted on social media designed to let the public know how they are handling the situation and to offer reassurances that steps being taken include offering counseling for students and staff.

The district's news release today said those steps have been taken, but offers few details otherwise. The news release is printed below.

The district has been asked by local media to provide information regarding the events that took place on May 5th that resulted in the death of one of our students.

The Webb City School District responded by contacting local authorities, emergency personnel, and followed the District’s Crisis Plan.

As part of the District’s Crisis Plan, Administration met with the parents’ representative on May 5th before releasing any information to staff and students.

Counselors have been provided for staff and students who may need additional support.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the district has and will continue to fully cooperate with the local authorities throughout the process.

The kid hung him self at the Webb City Baseball field on the bleachers due to bullying by Webb City students. Specifically the baseball team.

I've heard that the student was from Afghanistan but can't find that anywhere in a search online. Is that true?
