Grand jury indicts Joplin attorney on fraud, drug charges

A grand jury in the U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma returned a 17-count indictment of Joplin attorney Daniel Thomas Giraldi today.

Giraldi, 44, is charged with Possession of Oxycodone with Intent to Distribute (Count 1); Possession of Clonazepam with Intent to Distribute (Count 2); Use of a Communication Facility in the Commission of a Drug Trafficking Felony (Counts 3-12); Interstate Travel to Aid Racketeering (Count 13); Honest Services Fraud (Counts 14-17) (superseding).

A news release issued by U. S. Attorney Clint Johnson outlined Giraldi's alleged offenses:

Giraldi allegedly possessed with intent to distribute Oxycodone and Clonazepam on April 19, 2022. Giraldi and a woman also allegedly engaged in a texting conversation about Giraldi providing the woman with Xanax on April 14, 2022.

He is further charged with traveling from Missouri to Oklahoma to distribute Oxycodone and Clonazepam. Finally, he is charged with honest services fraud.

According to the indictment, from February 2019 until April 20, 2022, Giraldi abused his official position as an Assistant District Attorney in the Ottawa County District Attorney’s Office when he secretly used his position to provide favorable official action related to certain defendants’ criminal cases in exchange for sexual acts.

Official actions included dismissing criminal charges, reducing charges and/or offering favorable plea agreements; moving court dates; reducing bond amounts and dismissing or reducing traffic infractions.

Prosecutors also alleged that Giraldi took steps to cover up his activity by communicating via untraceable physical notes, using secured messaging applications, communicating in coded language, and using the trappings of his office to perform official actions for his own gain. The FBI is the investigative agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle M. McWaters is prosecuting the case.

Hopefully they will serve some Justice up to this Attorney. Alot of Judges and Attorney's feel they are above the Law and Get Away with Anything - because they know the Law... The Missouri Bar and Other State Lawyer Associations - Who have Ethics and Discipline Committee's try to Hide and Keep Quiet about all the Attornies that Commit Violations and Even Break the Law.

How many Times have you seen Judges and Lawyers in the News for a Violation Sanction or even a Disbarment of their Licenses - - Have you seen the List - - It Is somewhat difficult to Find - - and both Jasper and Newton County - have had Judges and Attorneys Sanctioned and Disbared - - for Various Unethical Actions they have Committed - -

Also, to add a Quick Note to the above Comments - - Look at the List and see how many Attornies are Sanctioned because of Tax Issues - 100's - It is one thing to not have the Money to Pay your Taxes - but these Attornies - who Charge on the Average in Missouri $100 to $400 an Hour and Bill in 15-Minute Increments - or Flat Amounts of $1000 to $5000 for a Divorce are just Unbelievable - Our Justice System is all about $$ Money $$ - - Padding their Pockets on the Back of Individuals - that definitely do not Earn the $100 to $400 these Attornies Charge.

Be Sure to Check Your Attorney Out to make sure he/she has Not Been Sanctioned or has Violated - The Ethical Statues of your States Bar Association. You Might be Very Surprised!!!

According to the American Bar Association, there are 1,327,910 licensed attorneys in the United States as of the latest survey in 2021 - or almost 1(one) Lawyer for every 240-US Citizens -

Is he running on a GOP ticket anywhere? Seems like the perfect candidate for a straight-party Republican ballot.
