Sentencing scheduled for Joplin woman on fraud, bank fraud and conspiracy charges

An 11:15 a.m. February 6 sentencing date has been scheduled in U. S. District Court in Springfield for Emily Anna-Lee Sturgis, 31, Joplin, who pleaded guilty July 22 to bank fraud and wire fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud.

The crimes committed by Sturgis and her partner, Aaron M. Blake, 28, Joplin, were detailed in a September 30 news release from the U. S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

Sturgis and Blake admitted they conspired from December 2022 to Jan. 26, 2023, to steal mail out of residential mailboxes and off porches in Joplin. The stolen mail included credit cards, debit cards, checks, cash, jewelry, and documents that contained personal identifying information (such as names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and bank account information). They stole Pandora jewelry from one victim’s mailbox, and a Christmas card that contained a $500 check from another victim’s mailbox. They used the stolen credit cards to unlawfully make purchases.

Blake, with the knowledge and assistance of Sturgis, used the stolen personal information to open credit card accounts and bank accounts under those stolen names. He then used these fraudulently created credit and bank accounts to make unlawful purchases.

Sturgis and Blake attempted to obtain at least $13,845 from their victims and did obtain at least $12,482 from their victims.

Blake pleaded guilty February 13 and was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison without parole. He will also have to pay $12,482 in restitution to his victims.

All of these thieves should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and not by the Barney Fife Locals but by the Feds - since it had to do with Stealing from the United States Postal Service and Possible Banks, Credit Card Companies, and Social Security and/or Disability Checks - which is all Federal Crimes. I hope they lock them up for Years and Years.

The amount of turmoil and time that the Victims will have to endure - with possible cancelling - credit cards, stolen checks, bank accounts, and dealing with late payments, putting their credit on hold and possible freezing their accounts and trying to prove to all the Creditors and the 3-Credit Bureaus - Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax - is a Nightmare and takes months and possible years - to get straightened out - plus they will all need to get a Police Reports to file with the Credit Bureaus or Other Creditors - to Prove that they were a Victim of Theft and Fraud - just because these little MF'ER's probably did not want to go out and get a Real Jobs - I Hope they Rot in Hell.

I have had this happen to Friends and Family Members - It is a tremendous Inconvenience for these people to have to spend - Days, Weeks, and Months on the Phone to different entities, being put on hold for hours, giving and filing information over and over - Just to Prove that they were a Victim of a Fraudulent Crime and Information Theft and to try and Clear their Good Names - Some People going to their Graves - Still trying to Convince Banks, Credit Card Companies, and Trying to get their Social Security / Disability Check - Re-Issued so they had Money to Live On - - No - People like this - Deserve the Worst Punishment that can be given.

Unless you have gone through this type of Personal Fraud - trying to get your Life, Name, Credit, Bank Fraud, and Credit Profiles straightened out - you have No Idea of the Time / Paperwork / Phone Calls it Takes to Prove Your Innocence - In the World of Credit - You have to Prove yourself Innocent - Even though you are the Victims of these Bastards.

A family member of mine who passed away years ago never owed a dime and was never in debt, but was unable to get everything cleaned up from a credit card fraud and the credit card company continued calling and sending him past due notices, even after he passed. We notified them he was deceased, but they still tried to collect this past due amount. This man would have been horrified to have any outstanding debt that would have sullied his good name, yet he was still haunted and could not RIP.
