Teen drowns in Elk River

A 15-year-old Omaha, Nebraska boy drowned in Elk River, five miles north of Southwest City 4:39 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the boy jumped from a mud bank into the water to swim across the river, became distressed, went under and didn't resurface.









McDonald County Deputy Coroner David Goins pronounced the boy dead at the scene at 5:31 p.m.

This is the first downing of 2026 for Highway Patrol Troop D.
