Why Sarah Palin?

Sara Palin "is a role model to women and reformers" John McCain said, opening his explanation of why he chose her as his vice presidential candidate.

"She understands reform" and she understands "special needs families," McCain added, though he did not understand how that can match up against Biden.

Barack Obama described Mrs. Palin as a "capable politician," and commended her work for those with special needs. Obama noted that McCain's suggestion of an across-the-board spending freeze would prevent extra funds going to those children.

McCain said Joe Biden was qualified, but had made numerous mistakes in his views on foreign policy.
