Eight members of special ethics committees accepted more than $1,000 in lobbyists' gifts in 2009

Eight of the 12 members appointed by Speaker of the House Ron Richard, R-Joplin, to a special committee on ethics and government reform received more than $1,000 in lobbyists' gifts during 2009, according to documents filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

The committee, which is led by Rep. Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho, (one of the four who accepted less than $1,000), is scheduled to have its first meeting at 8:30 a.m. today.

Among the legislation it will consider is a bill from House Majority Leader Steve Tilley, R-Perryville, which would prohibit accepting any gifts from lobbyists.

More information to come.
