Emery, Richard top Joplin-area reps for lobbyists' gifts in August

Rep. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, received more gifts from lobbyists in August than any other Joplin-area representative, according to reports posted today on the Missouri Ethics Commission website.

Emery received $316.51 in gifts over a two-day period, with all coming from Jessica Hodge, lobbyist for Holcim, Inc., Dundee, Mich, a concrete company. The Ethics Commission records indicate Ms. Hodge paid $100 for meals and $143.75 for travel for Emery Aug. 11, and $17.57 for meals the following day.

The same amount was also paid for Rose Granich of Emery's office,the documents indicate.

Emery has received $1,515.50 in gifts during the first eight months of 2008.

Finishing in second place was Speaker of the House in waiting Ron Richard, R-Joplin, with $245.79. The largest amount, $170 for baseball tickets, came from Denise Hasty, lobbyist for Associated General Contractors of St. Louis. Richard's total for the year is $2,178.99.
